So, I'm doing the calcium test. My problem is the end-point color is a really dark blue, but according to the manual the test is done once it turns blue.

When it turns blue for me its a really light blue usually.

...do I just keep adding drops until its exactly the end-point color, or am I doing it correctly by stopping when it first turns blue?. It might sound stupid, but I have no idea why the end-point is such a dark blue. I cannot reproduce the dark-blue color even after 20+ drops, so I'm guessing it is the light blue.

It's really frustrating how they made the color so dark if its supposed to be a light-blue. Would save newbies a lot of confusion if they made it light-blue.

I think it starts out red/pink. Then at some point you notice some blue showing (for a little while) untill finally one drop results is no left over red/pink but totally light blue. That is where you take the reading.

i think

Donates their time to make FishGeeks better.
What he said--

Some end points are hard to read--

It is very important to swirl after each drop as you near the endpoint...

If you are not confident of your reading, most LFSs will test your water for you if you bring some in-- a good idea to verify your reading

Realize these are home kits and the accuracy is only going to be close-- it should be accurate within 20-25 ppm if you do the test correctly...

Are you using API??

If so, I read their calcium test is pretty good-- I've never used it-- I use Salifert which are a bit pricey to use.

I use API, yes. I have also emailed API about it but no response back.

My LFS told me that it was infact the end point color I need to get. Unfortunately, going by this means I have around 1700ppm calcium in my water.. which I find _very_ hard to believe. Especially since the API guide says I should reach the end point color (I.E. Blue) one or two drops after the purple color.

So I'm going to take a wild guess here and say my end point is actually the light-blue color despite what the guide shows on the color..

Waiting on API to confirm.
